Glossary of Holistic Terms
This glossary of holistic terms is a labor of love in progress and is by no means a complete list. It is a combination of our own personal insights, observations, experience and expertise, combined with input from A Course in Miracles, the dictionary, ChatGPT and other sources, to offer you the best possible definitions of the following holistic terms. We will be making many additions and revisions as we go along. If you have information you would like to submit to enhance the definitions below, we invite you to send your suggestions to robin@robinduncan.com for consideration. We want to do our best to define each term, so that the many non-invasive forms of holistic support can be more easily understood, accepted, appreciated, and utilized by the general public due to their tremendous value. Thank you for helping us to make this glossary the best it can be.
WHAT IS A COURSE IN MIRACLES (ACIM)?
A Course in Miracles is a spiritually-based self-study curriculum that offers practical ways for people to move from a thought-system based on fear to a thought-system based on love. The book includes 3 major categories of curriculum; a Text, a 365-Day Workbook for Students and a Teachers Manual. In addition to these more widely-known categories in A Course in Miracles, there are supplemental sections including Clarification of Terms, Psychotherapy, and The Song of Prayer.
A Course in Miracles is a body of information scribed by Helen Schucman, a Professor of Medical Psychology at Columbia University in the mid-1970’s. Helen stated that the information came to her every evening for a period of seven years and she simply wrote down the information she heard through inner dictation. At the time, she did not understand much of the information she was recording. Upon completion of the work, it was found that the materials were highly significant in nature and served to provide a foundational structure for helping people to release judgment and reclaim their natural state of being and oneness with God. When Helen asked who was offering her the information she was recording in shorthand, the “Voice” identified Himself as the Elder Brother, Jesus.
The curriculum provides clear guidance on how to achieve a consistent state of happiness, health, abundance and well-being. Millions of copies have been sold and distributed around the world and translated into most major languages.
People from all walks of life and in various spiritual and religious paths have found the information to be highly useful and key in answering the age-old questions that have plagued humanity for thousands of years. The principles shared in the Course offer insight and highly effective ways to transform challenges in all areas of life; such as, health, relationship, money and emotional and physical well-being.
The language used in “the Course” is communicated based on the most prevalent language used at the time it was recorded. For instance, God is referred to as “He” and the Child of God is referred to as “His Son”. This was not intended to reflect gender. It was used only to provide language that was most familiar to those seeking Truth at the time. If you study the Course, it is suggested that you place greater emphasis on the message it shares and less emphasis on the gender references, so you will not limit your pursuit of Truth. People from all walks of faith have benefitted from their study and practice of A Course in Miracles.
WHAT IS ADVANCED HYPNOSIS?
Advanced hypnosis is a powerful tool for mental and emotional healing, sometimes resulting in deep psychological change. It can include such techniques as Regression Therapy, NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) and many others. It requires a skilled practitioner who can safely navigate the subconscious mind to address traumatic memories, resolve internal conflicts and long-held beliefs, and even embed new positive behaviors.
WHAT IS AGE REGRESSION?
Age regression is a psychological phenomenon where a person mentally and emotionally regresses to a younger age, whether it be in behavioral, emotional or social development. This might be an unconscious response, or coping mechanism, to deal with overwhelming emotions, trauma or stress, but it can also be utilized in Hypnosis Therapy as a therapeutic tool.
WHAT IS ATONEMENT?
Atonement is defined as the process of reconciliation between humanity and God, sometimes thought of, in a religious context, as the act of making amends for wrongdoing, or sin. However, in A Course in Miracles, atonement refers to the process of awakening to our true nature, where we remember that separation from God never actually occurred and that sin is just another part of the illusion. True atonement is to reconnect with our divine essence.
WHAT DOES AWAKENING MEAN?
Awakening or “to awaken” is a spiritual reference that means to awaken to the full realization of your Whole Self; in oneness with God. This is your natural state of being and is accomplished through your willingness to forgive and release all illusions, judgments and grievances against yourself and others and by consciously inviting the memory of this Divine connection to return to your mind. Once you remember and recognize this Higher part of yourself, you can then follow the infinite and loving guidance that is inherent and available in that relationship. As you do this, you will experience amazing results and will become so confident in your connection, that you will follow and rely on your inner guidance or “inner compass” rather than those whom you would consider as experts in their field. Additionally, you will no longer be in fear of any kind and you will experience a consistent level of peace, regardless of your external
circumstances.
WHAT IS BREATHWORK (BREATHING EXERCISES)?
It is thought by many cultures that the process of breathing is the essence of being. A rhythmic process of expansion and contraction, breathing is one example of the consistent polarity we see in nature such as night and day, wake and sleep, etc. In yoga, the breath is known as prana or a universal energy that can be used to find a balance between the body-mind, the conscious-unconscious and the nervous system. Unlike other bodily functions, the breath is easily used to communicate between these systems which give us an excellent tool to help facilitate positive change. It is the only bodily function that we do both voluntarily and involuntarily. We can consciously use breathing to influence the involuntary sympathetic nervous system that regulates blood pressure, heart rate, circulation, digestion and many other bodily functions.
Pranayama is a yoga practice that literally means the control of life or energy. It uses breathing techniques to change subtle energies within the body for health and well-being. Breathing exercises can act as a bridge into those functions of the body of which we generally do not have conscious control.
WHAT IS THE BRIDGE TO THE REAL WORLD (THE BRIDGE)
The Bridge to the Real WorldTM is a book (coming soon) by Robin Duncan. The bridge is a symbol for the transition from perception to knowledge, and thus is equated with the Holy Spirit, the Real World, and God's last step; used also to denote the shift from false to true perception and the real world. The bridge is a metaphor to describe the bridge of consciousness you will pass through during your awakening process and also to denote the many obstacles you will face and what you need to do to avoid delays and quicken your journey back to peace. The Bridge to the Real WorldTM by Robin Duncan will provide easy steps for living A Course in Miracles. Many people are challenged when studying the Course and this book will serve as a “How-To” manual or trail map to quicken the pace.
WHAT IS CONSCIOUS COMMAND?
Conscious CommandTM is a management style consisting of deliberate thoughts, behaviors and responses that lead to a desired goal or outcome. To be in a state of “Conscious Command” is to actively choose to move beyond limiting thoughts, beliefs and judgments (formed from past experiences) and to choose instead thoughts, words and actions that are consistent with the desired outcome.
The foundational principles are:
-
There is an accessible place of power, intelligence and creativity within each individual that is free of fear, limiting thoughts, beliefs and judgments drawn from past experiences
-
Thought (being cause) creates experience (being effect)
-
Your current life experience is the external picture or projection of an accumulation of your past thoughts, beliefs and judgments
-
Other people are mirroring your thoughts and beliefs back to you and they “show up” based on your expectations and judgments
-
To rapidly reach a desired goal or new outcome, your thoughts, words, actions, feelings and behaviors must be in alignment

WHAT IS THE CONSCIOUS MIND?
The conscious mind is the place of short-term memory, analytical thinking, reasoning and judgment. You might think of the mind as comprised of 3 parts: the conscious mind, subconscious mind and super-conscious mind. In our classes, we refer to the conscious mind as “the guard dog at the fenceTM”. It is the part of the mind that is committed to holding onto limiting thoughts, fears and judgments learned in the past. It is also the part of the mind that is resistant to change. On a spiritual level, the conscious mind interferes with the guidance and constant communication received from the super-conscious part of the mind. The super-conscious is that part of the mind that some call Divine intelligence, God-wisdom or supreme knowledge, without the added emotions of fear and judgment. Every individual has access to
this wise, super-conscious part of the mind, which is accomplished through the practice of quieting the mind, meditation, hypnosis, guided imagery and other techniques to tune in and listen to It’s influence. Command CommandTM Workshops are a series of global corporate training and support programs offered by The Miracle Center of California.
WHAT IS DEATH?
The most common definition of death is the end of the life of an organism. However, in A Course in Miracles, death is seen as simply one more component of the overarching illusion created by the ego that keeps us separated from our true essence and oneness in God.
WHAT IS EFT (EMOTIONAL FREEDOM TECHNIQUE)?
EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) commonly known as “tapping”, is a form of psychological acupressure, using the same energy meridians as in traditional acupuncture to treat physical and emotional ailments without the invasiveness of needles. By tapping with the fingertips on certain energy meridian points, while you “tune in” to your specific problem and repeat customized affirmations, you experience emotional and physical relief, if not total elimination of the discomfort.
An advanced level of the EFT application is called EFT with the Source TechniqueTM , a proprietary technique developed by Robin Duncan. EFT with the Source TechniqueTM is a combination of deliberate methods to enable a Certified Practitioner to quickly identify the “root cause” of a problem and then with use of tapping, eliminate or substantially reduce the charge of the trauma, pain, anxiety, addiction, cravings, discomfort, etc. In this way, the client is more likely to experience lasting relief without recurrence of the problem.
The Miracle Center of California is the only global training facility that offers training and certification in EFT with the Source TechniqueTM (with CEUs) and how to combine this powerful technique before, during and after Hypnosis. See “Source TechniqueTM” defined below.
Example: EFT with the Source TechniqueTM for Intense Burning Sensation.
Our client, let’s call John, came to us with the symptom of severe burning feet among other ailments. This had gone on for 5 years. It was his belief that the cause of the burning sensation was due to an accident he had 5 years earlier (where he had chased a burglar over a fence and then slipped and fractured his spine). The doctors told him the burning sensation was likely due to the fracture in his spine but shared that they did not know for sure. John rated the intense pain as a 200 (on a 10 point scale) and his only choice was to take more pain medication.
By using our proprietary Source TechniqueTM, we discovered that John had injured himself as a child by falling off a fence into a pile of burning coals. The burning sensation had been triggered (not caused) by the injury from the burglary incident 5 years earlier. In addition, John had concerns about loss of income and future challenges, all contributing to his pain. After we applied EFT with the Source Technique TM for about 2 minutes, John’s pain from the burning sensation dropped from 200 to 4. You can imagine the surprise on John’s face when the real root cause had been identified (in minutes) and the pain was significantly neutralized.

WHAT IS EFT PRAYER TAPPING?
EFT prayer tapping is a method that combines Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) with prayer and the principles of A Course in Miracles. This technique has evolved as an effective way to help release emotional pain and negative beliefs. It leads to great personal healing and transformation.
WHAT IS EFT WITH THE SOURCE TECHNIQUE?
EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques), commonly known as “tapping”, is a form of psychological acupressure, using the same energy meridians as in traditional acupuncture to treat physical and emotional ailments without the invasiveness of needles. By tapping with the fingertips on certain energy meridian points, while you “tune in” to your specific problem and repeat customized affirmations, you experience emotional and physical relief, if not total elimination of the discomfort. EFT, formerly known as Meridian Tapping, has its origin in ancient Chinese medicine. There have been many contributors that have helped to shape EFT into the powerful and effective tool that it is today. During the 1980’s, Dr. Roger Calahan combined tapping with focus on emotional problems and called this combination “TFT or Thought Field Therapy”. During the 1990’s, Gary Craig helped to bring this powerful modality to the world and renamed it as “EFT or Emotional Freedom Techniques”. During the 2000’s, Dr. Pat Carrington added the “Choices Method” to EFT, helping to refine the process by adding customized positive affirmations for higher results. In 2002, Robin Duncan added the “Source TechniqueTM ” to the EFT Techniques.
Tapping Sequence.
EFT with the Source TechniqueTM is a combination of deliberate spiritually based methods to enable you to quickly identify the “source or root cause” of a problem, and then substantially reduce the negative charge of the discomfort with EFT. The Miracle Center of California is the only global training facility that offers training and certification in the Source TechniqueTM. Our Certified Practitioners learn how to combine the Source TechniqueTM with EFT before, during, and after Hypnosis. CEU’s are available.

WHAT IS THE EGO?
The ego represents the crazy mad idea that you could be separate from God. It is not a force to be battled. It is an idea to be recognized as false. Here are a few statements about the ego from A Course in Miracles: The ego is the mind's belief that it is completely on its own. The ego is in your mind, because you have accepted it there, and its evaluation of you, is the exact opposite of the Holy Spirit’s, because the ego does not love you. It is unaware of what you are, and wholly mistrustful of everything it perceives because its perceptions are so shifting. The ego is therefore capable of suspiciousness at best and viciousness at worst. That is its range. You, then, have two conflicting evaluations of yourself in your mind, and they cannot both be true. The ego is, therefore, particularly likely to attack you when you react lovingly, because it has evaluated you as unloving and you are going against its judgment. The ego is immobilized in the presence of God’s grandeur, because His grandeur establishes your freedom. Even the faintest hint of your reality literally drives the ego from your mind.
The ego depends solely on your willingness to tolerate it.
It will attack your motives as soon as they become clearly out of accord with its perception of you. This is when it will shift abruptly from suspiciousness to viciousness, since its uncertainty is increased. It cannot exceed it because of its uncertainty. And it can never go beyond it because it can never be certain. You cannot evaluate an insane belief system from within it. Its range precludes this. You can only go beyond it, look back from a point where sanity exists and see the contrast. Only by this contrast can insanity be judged as insane. The ego’s goal is autonomy and separation. It is totally confused about reality, but it does not lose sight of its goal. It is much more vigilant than you are, because it is perfectly certain of its purpose. You are confused because you do not recognize yours. The ego may see some good, but never only good. That is why its perceptions are so variable. It does not reject goodness entirely, for that you could not accept. But it always adds something that is not real to the real, thus confusing illusion and reality.
WHAT IS ENERGY BALANCING?
Energy balancing is a system of realigning, re-attuning and balancing the body’s electro-magnetic energy field. Similar to electrical energy that flows through the power lines to your home, the body’s energy flows through pathways in, around and through the body. When the body’s electrical pathways are interrupted, physical and emotional health and wellness can be compromised.
WHAT IS ENERGY MEDICINE?
Energy Medicine is based on the fundamental premise that all physical objects (bodies) and psychological processes (thoughts, emotions, beliefs and attitudes) are expressions of energy; therefore, all bodies are believed to be infused with a subtle energy or life force. This life force is known by a variety of terms corresponding to different traditions. Energy medicine proposes that imbalances in the body's "energy field" result in illness, and that by re-balancing the body's energy-field health can be restored. Techniques such as Hypnotherapy, Guided Imagery, EFT with the Source TechniqueTM, Reiki, Sound Therapy, Crystal Healing, Acupuncture, Acupressure and other healing modalities are very helpful in clearing and rebalancing the bodies subtle energy system. Prayer, meditation and yoga are also beneficial in promoting wellness. Other names for energy medicine are energy therapy and energy healing. The Miracle Center of California offers training and certification in many of these natural healing modalities. See our “Training” tab on the home page menu bar for information and registration.
WHAT IS ENLIGHTENED LEADERSHIP?
Enlightened LeadershipTM is the highest form of leadership, as it stems from the knowledge that all power is within and that there is a divine and harmonious solution to every situation. Further, it is understood that everything and everyone we see and experience is a projection or “effect” of our past thoughts. As such, the need to judge, blame or accuse is not useful or necessary. To be an Enlightened Leader involves the management team listening for Higher wisdom and
guidance at all times and making decisions based on that influence, regardless of external circumstances; as if driven by an internal compass. It is the acceptance that all thoughts are creative and everything you see is presented to you in accordance with your past thoughts and beliefs. The practice of Enlightened LeadershipTM results in a state of being invulnerable to external influences, such as the economy, the value of the dollar, supply and demand, etc.
The Enlightened Leader understands that he/she is not here to change the world, as everything we see (outside us) is the effect of our thoughts and beliefs. They realize instead, that as their perceptions are healed, the result is that the world is healed. Leading from a sustained place of wisdom and listening, without judgment, offers the greatest opportunity for alignment with Divine Wisdom; thereby leading to the highest and greatest outcome for all. Enlightened Leadership TM is Global Training Program designed especially for Executives and their employees by The Miracle Center of California.

WHAT IS ENLIGHTENMENT?
Enlightenment means “full comprehension of a situation or deep insight into the meaning and purpose of all things”. It literally means “to awaken” or “to understand”. Someone who isawakened has gained insight into the workings of the mind (which keeps us imprisoned) andleads to liberation of oneself. Enlightenment is attained when all limitations have been removedfrom the mind and one’s positive potential has been completely and perfectly realized. It is astate characterized by infinite compassion, vision, wisdom and trust.
WHAT IS FORGIVENESS?
Forgiveness can be defined as a conscious, deliberate decision to release feelings of resentment or vengeance toward a person, group, event or entity that has caused you harm. True forgiveness is a key component of spiritual growth and healing. It is not merely about forgetting the wrongs done to you but also letting go of resentment and embracing peace and understanding. Forgiveness leads to improved mental health and emotional well-being and helps people reclaim their spiritual power.
WHAT IS GOD?
WHAT IS GUIDED IMAGERY?
Guided imagery is a process of guiding an individual or group through a process of creative visualization using the 6 senses to detail and vivify the experience. This helps to promote a desired physical, emotional or psychological outcome. Guided imagery is sometimes compared to focused daydreaming. Some guided imagery exercises lead you to imagine relaxing scenes that promote tranquility and stress reduction. Other guided imagery exercises stimulate complex images of your desired response or outcome, such as overcoming a disease, losing weight, quitting smoking, removing blocks to prosperity, bringing healing to relationships or feeling pain-free. A facilitator's voice can lead the guided imagery exercise, or you may build the image yourself. Many athletes, actors and presenters use this technique to visualize perfect execution prior to performing. Guided imagery is based on the concept that your body and mind are connected. Using all of your senses, your body seems to respond as though what you are imagining is real. An example often used is to imagine an orange or a lemon in great detail - the smell, the color and the texture of the peel. Continue to imagine the smell of the lemon and then see yourself taking a bite of the lemon and feel the juice squirting into your mouth. Many people salivate when they do this. This exercise demonstrates how your body can respond to what you are imagining.

Difference between Guided Imagery and Hypnosis
People often use the terms "guided imagery" and "hypnosis” interchangeably. These techniques engage the mind's capacity to calm, focus, concentrate and control our body functions, thoughts and actions. These concepts are similar; however, they do not have the same meaning. Guided imagery is a form of creative visualization, where a person is guided into a light state of trance to promote relaxation, stimulate creativity through the use of imagination, release stress and/or visualize a future event to enhance performance and success. Hypnosis is a heightened state of suggestibility induced by a deeper state of trance through a hypnotic induction and deepening techniques. During this deeper state of trance, the subject can access long-forgotten memories from the past as a means for releasing trauma, identifying the “root cause” of a current pattern or discomfort, building confidence or self-esteem and/or helping the subject to reach a new and more desirable response, feeling or behavior. The Miracle Center of California offers training and certification in Hypnosis, Guided Imagery, Hypnotherapy, Life Coaching, Sound Therapy and EFT with the Source TechniqueTM with CEUs.
WHAT IS GUIDED MEDITATION?
Guided meditation is when one person actively guides another into a state of relaxation and meditation through the use of visualizations and guided imagery. With guided meditation, you don’t have to ‘work’ to get into a deep state of meditation. All you have to do is listen and follow the instructions as they are given. Guided meditation requires that you use the power of your mind to visualize or imagine something that’s being described. Some people believe they cannot visualize, and this discourages them from trying a guided meditation. It’s important to realize that not everyone ’sees’ things when they visualize. Seeing, hearing and feeling are all valid ways of visualizing or imagining something. Every person uses each of these senses to a greater or lesser degree. The type of input that you respond to best is unique to you and is probably a combination of two or all three types of modalities: visual, auditory and kinesthetic.

WHAT IS A HEALER?
A healer is someone who helps restore balance and wellness in others by addressing root causes of physical, emotional, or spiritual imbalances. In A Course in Miracles, healing is attained by accepting the Atonement, not by physical means, as physicality is a defining component of illusion. Therefore, a healer is one who facilitates the remembrance of the Truth that we are all One, and One with God.
WHAT IS HOLISTIC HEALING?
Holistic Healing or "wholistic" healing addresses all parts of the individual, mind, body and spirit, not just the physical aspect of a person. Holistic healing is not intended to serve as a band-aid or a one-time fix. It is an ongoing journey of using natural and non-invasive methods and therapies, such as prayer, meditation, massage, exercise, yoga, acupuncture, acupressure, energy healing, The Source TechniqueTM, EFT, sound therapy, voice analysis, herbal supplements, homeopathy, chiropractic, nutrition, reiki, hydrotherapy, colonics, reflexology and many more, for the purpose of experiencing a consistent state of health, wholeness and well-being.
WHAT IS THE HOLY INSTANT?
The Holy Instant is the realization of the truth in all that you are in oneness with God; infinite love, peace, freedom, joy, holiness, innocence, and everlasting union with all that is, as experienced in the eternal moment of now. “The holy instant is the result of your determination to be holy. It is the answer. The desire and the willingness to let it come precede its coming. You prepare your mind for it only to the extent of recognizing that you want it above all else. It is not necessary that you do more; indeed, it is necessary that you realize that you cannot do more. Do not attempt to give the Holy Spirit what He does not ask, or you will add the ego to Him and confuse the two. He asks but little. It is He Who adds the greatness and the might. He joins with you to make the holy instant far greater than you can understand. It is your realization that you need do so little that enables Him to give so much.” ACIM Ch.18.IV.1
“The holy instant does not come from your little willingness alone. It is always the result of your small willingness combined with the unlimited power of God's Will. You have been wrong in thinking that it is needful to prepare yourself for Him. It is impossible to make arrogant preparations for holiness, and not believe that it is up to you to establish the conditions for peace. God has established them. They do not wait upon your willingness for what they are. Your willingness is needed only to make it possible to teach you what they are. If you maintain you are unworthy of learning this, you are interfering with the lesson by believing that you must make the learner different. You did not make the learner, nor can you make him different. Would you first make a miracle yourself, and then expect one to be made for you?” ACIM Ch.18.IV.4
“The Holy instant is a time in which you receive and give perfect communication. This means, however, that it is a time in which your mind is open, both to receive and give. It is the recognition that all minds are in communication. It therefore seeks to change nothing, but merely to accept everything.” ACIM Ch.15.IV.6.5
“The necessary condition for the holy instant does not require that you have no thoughts that are not pure. But it does require that you have none that you would keep.” ACIM Ch.IV.9.1
“Would you learn how perfect and immaculate is the holy altar on which your Father has placed Himself? This you will recognize in the holy instant, in which you willingly and gladly give over every plan but His. For there lies peace, perfectly clear because you have been willing to meet its conditions. You can claim the holy instant anytime and anywhere you want it.” ACIM Ch.15.IV.4.1
“This is my holy instant of release." Father, it is today that I am free, because my will is Yours. I thought to make another will. Yet nothing that I thought apart from You exists. And I am free because I was mistaken and did not affect my own reality at all by my illusions. Now I give them up, and lay them down before the feet of truth, to be removed forever from my mind. This is my holy instant of release. Father, I know my will is one with Yours. And so today we find our glad return to Heaven, which we never really left. The Son of God this day lays down his dreams. The Son of God this day comes home again, released from sin and clad in holiness, with his right mind restored to him at last.” ACIM Lesson 227.1-2
WHAT IS A HOLY RELATIONSHIP?
A holy relationship is one in which two people have been joined in a truly common purpose by the Holy Spirit. This purpose is shared and mutual and is the source of salvation. Holy relationships are not limited to romantic or intimate connections, but can also include peer relationships, psychotherapist/patient relationships, teacher/pupil relationships, and even relationship between people who pray together.
WHAT IS THE HOLY SPIRIT?
“The Holy Spirit mediates between illusions and the truth. Since He must bridge the gap between reality and dreams, perception leads to knowledge through the grace that God has given Him, to be His gift to everyone who turns to Him for truth. Across the bridge that He provides are dreams all carried to the truth, to be dispelled before the light of knowledge... The Holy Spirit understands the means you made, by which you would attain what is forever unattainable. And if you offer them to Him, He will employ the means you made for exile to restore your mind to where it truly is at home.” ACIM WB.7.1-3, 3.2-3
“The Holy Spirit is the only part of the Holy Trinity that has a symbolic function. He is referred to as the Healer, the Comforter and the Guide. He is also described as something "separate," apart from the Father and from the Son. I myself said, ‘If I go I will send you another Comforter
and he will abide with you.’ His symbolic function makes the Holy Spirit difficult to understand, because symbolism is open to different interpretations. As a man and also one of God's creations, my right thinking, which came from the Holy Spirit or the Universal Inspiration, taught me first and foremost that this Inspiration is for all. I could not have It myself without knowing this. The word ‘know’ is proper in this context, because the Holy Spirit is so close to knowledge that He calls it forth; or better, allows it to come. I have spoken before of the higher or ‘true’ perception, which is so near to truth that God Himself can flow across the little gap. Knowledge is always ready to flow everywhere, but it cannot oppose. Therefore, you can obstruct it, although you can never lose it.” ACIM Ch.5.I.4.
“The Holy Spirit is the Christ Mind which is aware of the knowledge that lies beyond perception... Before that there was no need for healing, for no one was comfortless. The Voice of the Holy Spirit is the Call to Atonement, or the restoration of the integrity of the mind... The Holy Spirit will remain with the Sons of God, to bless their creations and keep them in the light of joy.” ACIM Ch.5.I.5.
God honored even the miscreations of His children because they had made them. But He also blessed His children with a way of thinking that could raise their perceptions so high they could reach almost back to Him. The Holy Spirit is the Mind of the Atonement. He represents a state of mind close enough to One-mindedness that transfer to it is at last
possible. Perception is not knowledge, but it can be transferred to knowledge, or cross over into it. It might even be more helpful here to use the literal meaning of transferred or ‘carried over,’ since the last step is taken by God. ACIM Ch.5.I.6.
Accept your Father’s gift. It is a Call from Love to Love, that It be but Itself. The Holy Spirit is His gift, by which the quietness of heaven is restored to God’s beloved Son.” ACIM WB.7.5.1-3
WHAT IS HYPNOSIS?
Hypnosis is a state of heightened suggestibility and physical relaxation, accompanied and induced by mental concentration. The state of hypnosis can generally be achieved by anyone of normal intelligence and mental awareness over the age of 4 years old. Hypnosis is usually induced by a procedure known as a hypnotic induction, which is commonly composed of a series of preliminary instructions and suggestions. Hypnotic suggestions may be delivered by a qualified hypnotist in the presence of the subject, or may be self-administered through self-hypnosis or auto-suggestion. Contrary to popular misconception that hypnosis is a form of unconsciousness resembling sleep, contemporary research suggests that hypnotic subjects are fully awake and are focusing attention with a corresponding decrease in the peripheral awareness. Subjects also show an increased responsiveness to positive suggestions. In addition, psychiatric nurses in most medical facilities are allowed to administer hypnosis to patients in order to relieve symptoms such as anxiety, negative or uncontrollable behaviors and improve self-esteem and confidence. The words hypnosis and hypnotism were both derived from the term neuro-hypnotism coined by a Scottish surgeon James Braid around 1841.

A Hypnosis Script (as in Hypnosis or Guided Imagery)
A customized collection of suggestions through the use of positive statements, affirmations and other reinforcing words used during the state of hypnosis. The script of suggestive language serves to “plant seeds” in the subconscious mind (following the induction when the mind is more receptive to suggestion) that help the hypnosis client to reach higher levels of happiness, health, abundance, well-being and/or create their desired outcome. The hypnosis script may also be used to anchor in a new form of thought, response or behavior, take the client backward or forward in time to release trauma or other negative images, reach higher states of consciousness and also to reach deeper states of meditation. The Miracle Center of California offers training and certification classes in Hypnosis and Guided Imagery where you can learn how to conduct a successful hypnosis session, perform age and/or past life regression and write a customized script for healing and transformation.

WHAT IS HYPNOTHERAPY?
Hypnotherapy is the process of using hypnosis for the purpose of healing and transformation. Hypnotherapy is accomplished by inducing a subject into hypnosis or a state of trance, with their permission, to anchor and reinforce positive feelings and behaviors, such as confidence, self-esteem, personal-power, focus, clarity, drive, passion and other positive factors. Additionally, hypnotherapy can be used to access memories from the past for the purpose of emotionally moving beyond the negative aspects of the experience. Hypnotherapy can also be used to accelerate weight loss, habit cessation and enhance business and sports performance. Hypnotherapy is often applied to help modify a person’s attitudes and feelings, as well as addressing a wide range of conditions including dysfunctional habits, anxiety, food cravings, substance abuse, stress-related illness, pain management, insomnia, anger management, personal development and much more.

WHAT IS AN ILLUSION?
Illusion can be defined as a misrepresentation of sensory stimulus, or an interpretation of something that contradicts the general agreement of that thing, like when a very hot road appears to be covered with water until you get closer and realize it is bone dry. The people around you would all agree that the road is dry, but you were sure it was wet only moments ago. Sometimes illusions can be intentionally created by magicians or artists, for example, to show how easily the mind can be confused, or tricked.
However, in A Course in Miracles, illusion is defined as everything you can see with your eyes. “The world you see is an illusion of a world. God did not create it, for what He creates must be eternal as Himself. Yet there is nothing in the world you see that will endure forever.” ACIM Ch. 4.1:1-3
“The one correction possible for false perception must be true perception. It will not endure. But for the time it lasts it comes to heal. For true perception is a remedy with many names. Forgiveness, salvation, Atonement, true perception, all are one. They are the one beginning, with the end to lead to Oneness far beyond themselves. True perception is the means by which the world is saved from sin, for sin does not exist. And it is this that true perception sees. ACIM Ch. 4.3:2-9
WHO IS JESUS CHRIST?
Also known as Jesus of Nazareth, Jesus is the central figure in Christianity, the world’s largest religion (30%). Most Christians believe that Jesus was born to the Virgin Mary in Bethlehem, around 4-6 BCE and raised in Nazareth. He was a poor Jewish carpenter who saw God in everyone. He became a dedicated preacher and leader who set about spreading the Word of God’s Love. Stories accumulated of miraculous acts, such as walking on water, healing the sick, and raising a man from the dead, thus a loyal following grew up around him. Many came to believe that He was the Messiah, or savior, that had been prophesied in the Old Testament and the Hebrew Bible. His exceptional life and teachings are documented in the Gospels of the New Testament, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.
At around age 33, Jesus was accused of blasphemy, perjury and treason for challenging the authority of Roman rule with his teachings and was executed by crucifixion. It is widely believed that He died, was buried, rose from the dead on the third day (known as the Resurrection) and later ascended into Heaven. His death and resurrection are considered atonement for the sins of humanity, offering eternal life to believers and firmly establishing Him as the Son of God.
Jesus is widely considered to be the author of A Course in Miracles, though that is never explicitly stated in the text. Helen Schucman, who transcribed the Course, believed that the voice she heard every day for seven years was that of Jesus. Another way of looking at it is that Jesus stands as a symbol for anyone who has accepted the Atonement and fully identifies with the universal Oneness of God.
